In the construction industry, one of the key tasks is to ensure the standardization of materials, and brick is no exception. Today, almost all building materials are produced with regulated dimensions, which makes it much easier to work with them and allows you to accurately calculate the required number of products for designing buildings and structures.
Dimensions and weight of the red brick
When designing various buildings, all the characteristics of building materials are taken into account, including their overall dimensions and weight. This allows designers to easily select elements of a certain format for construction or cladding, and knowing the approximate weight of the brick helps to correctly calculate the load on the foundation of the object under construction. In this article, we will look in detail at the dimensions and weight of red bricks, as well as their standards and types, according to GOST 530-2012.
Standard sizes of red bricks
Red brick of normal (regular) format, corresponding to GOST 530-2012, has the following dimensions::
- Length: 250mm
- Width: 120 mm
- Height: 65 mm
These dimensions of a single brick serve as a reference point, and all other dimensions are indicated as proportional to it. For example, a one-and-a-half brick measures 250×120×88 mm and is designated as 1.4 NF, while a double brick measures 250×120×138 mm and is designated as 2.1 NF.
Other formats and their designations
In addition to single and one-and-a-half formats, there are also Euro formats and double brick formats. The euroformat, designated as 0.7 NF, has dimensions of 250 × 85×65 mm and is mainly used for facing works. The dual format (2.1 NF, 250 × 120×138 mm) allows you to significantly speed up the construction process.
Deviations from the standard size
Согласно ГОСТ, допустимые отклонения от стандартных размеров на одном элементе составляют:
- Length ±4 mm
- Width ±3 mm
- Height ±2 mm for front and ±3 mm for ordinary material
These tolerances provide sufficient precision in brick production to avoid significant deviations in size.
Red brick weight
In GOST 530-2012, there are no specific instructions regarding the weight of bricks, as it depends on various factors: structure, voidness, dimensions and raw materials. However, the weight of the brick is an important parameter, since the load on the foundation and other structural elements depends on it.
Classification by density
Depending on the average density, bricks are divided into several classes based on their thermal characteristics:
- Low-performance (normal): 2.0 and 2.4
- Conditional-effective: 1,4
- Effective: 1.2
- Increased efficiency: 1.0
- High efficiency: 0.7 and 0.8
Types of bricks by structure
Red brick is available in two main versions:
- Hollow (slotted) – with the number of cavities up to 45%. It is lighter than a full-bodied one, but less strong.
- Solid-the number of cavities is not more than 13% of the total volume of bricks. It is characterized by greater weight and strength.
Examples of brick weight
The weight of a single red brick depends on its size and structure. Here are some examples for the main formats::
- Single (250 × 120×65 mm): hollow – 2.2-2.6 kg, full-bodied-3.3-3.6 kg
- One and a half (250 × 120×88 mm): hollow – 2.8-3.5 kg, full-bodied-4-4. 3 kg
- Double (250 × 120×138 mm): hollow – 4-5 kg, full-bodied-6.6-7.2 kg
- Euro (250×85×65 mm): hollow-1.8-1.9 kg
Furnace red brick
Furnace bricks are used for masonry of the furnace body and chimney. It has increased resistance to high temperatures and a higher density compared to conventional construction or facing products. The weight of kiln bricks varies from 3.7-4.2 kg.
Number of bricks in a cube
When calculating the required amount of material for construction, it is important to know how many bricks are in one cubic meter. For single bricks without mortar joints, this value is 512 pieces, and with joints – 394 pieces. Similar calculations can be made for other formats:
- One-and-a-half: 378 pieces without seams and 305 with seams included
- Double: 242 pieces without seams and 206 with seams included
- Euro: 724 pieces without seams and 555 including seams
Number of bricks per pallet
Deliveries of masonry materials are carried out on pallets. The number of bricks per pallet depends on the method of laying and the manufacturer’s equipment. Usually placed on the pallet:
- Single brick: 420-480 pieces
- One and a half bricks: 320-440 pieces
- Euro format: 660-720 pieces
Main characteristics and composition of red bricks
Red bricks, also called ceramic bricks, are made from low-melting clay. It has the following characteristics::
- Strength: M100-M200
- Frost Resistance: F25-F100
- Moisture absorption: up to 14%
- Thermal Conductivity: 0.35-0.7 W/(m * K)
Conclusion
Knowing the size, weight and characteristics of red bricks allows you to plan construction work correctly and choose high-quality materials. Following the standards of GOST 530-2012, you can be sure of the reliability and durability of buildings. We hope that the information we provide will help you choose and calculate the required number of bricks for your project.
