If you decide to lay linoleum yourself, then it is quite easy to do this without resorting to the help of repairmen. You just need to know what needs to be done and how. And also What tools you will need.
The following are the main points that you need to perform when on your own.
Preparing for a linoleum bed.
Next, we tear off the skirting board. If you decide to change the linoleum, then it’s a good idea to immediately replace the baseboards with new ones.
Then we evaluate the available coverage. If you have an old linoleum floor, then do not rush to pick it up. It is quite possible to put new linoleum on the old one-the floor will be warmer and softer. However, this is provided that the surface of the old linoleum, or rather the base on which it lies, is flat. Otherwise, you’ll have to level the base, but that’s another story.
Next, we measure the area of the room. It is better to draw a plan of the room on paper, where you can specify the length and width of the room, door openings, heating pipes, and so on. This plan will come in handy when buying linoleum. In general, the plan and purchase of linoleum can be done even before the room is emptied of furniture, but it is much more convenient after.
It is better to buy in a specialized store, where there are normal sellers who will help with the choice, advise you on which pieces to take. Some stores can help with cutting linoleum to size.
When buying, you must take into account the width of the linoleum floor. The most common rolls are 2.5 meters wide, 3.5 meters wide, and 4 meters wide. If the store has the same linoleum of different widths, choose the width that will allow you to do without any internal seams, that is. you can simply put linoleum on the floor in one piece.
We lay linoleum.
To do this, roll out the linoleum in the room and cut off the extra centimeters. If you have to put several pieces-lay out these pieces as they will lie.
The linoleum should sit for a few days so that it straightens up. It is possible that after lying down it will have to be pruned a little more in one place or another, because the linoleum may slightly increase in size.
Between the linoleum and the wall, you need to leave a small gap – about a centimeter (it will be closed with a skirting board). Then, after the final laying down and after attaching the skirting boards, the linoleum will not go in waves.
After the linoleum has settled down, you can continue on. Here the question always arises: to glue or notglue linoleumto the base.
What you can recommend. It is better of course to glue, but you can not glue linoleum, if the area of the room is small (up to 20 m2) and you have linoleum laid down in one piece. In this case, the linoleum will perfectly snuggle up with skirting boards. It can be partially taped in passageways, for example, at the threshold.
If the area of the room is large or you have several pieces of linoleum, then you will have to glue. There are a lot of adhesives for linoleum, ask in the store; they do not have much difference.
Whensizing linoleumroll it in a narrow place into a roll. After that, we spread the glue with a linoleum comb and slowly, pressing well, glue the roll. Do not immediately spread a lot of glue, so that it does not have time to dry out. If the room is large, it is better to do it together. When the entire area is taped, we glue the piece where the roll was rolled. The joints between the pieces can be sealed by so-called cold welding.
After gluing the linoleum, we install the skirting boards and return the furniture to the room. Here, be careful, when moving furniture, it is easy to damage the newly laid linoleum.
